Etienne Bernard is the Co-founder and CEO of NuMind, a YC S22 company building specialized language models for reliable information extraction from complex documents. NuMind develops production-grade document intelligence systems for structured extraction, OCR, and enterprise RAG. Etienne holds a PhD in Physics from ENS and MIT, previously led the Machine Learning group at Wolfram Research, and authored Introduction to Machine Learning. His research has received over 1,000 citations on Google Scholar.
He has spoken at 100+ events, including ML Prague as a keynote speaker, SXSW, Adopt AI, OSDC Boston, WeAreDevelopers Berlin, DevTalks Romania, and NYC Enterprise AI. His current work focuses on specialized Small Language Models that help enterprises achieve more accurate, private, and cost-efficient document AI than general-purpose LLMs.
