The College Theatre took on its present form in 1753.
Originally built with two tiers of balconies and proscenium boxes, it was once deeper and included a stage and backstage area that no longer exist. The former proscenium boxes now serve as control booths. Lowering the ceiling from the original design required the upper balcony to be removed and led to the present canopied ceiling, whose centre depicts Minerva surrounded by the Arts. This twentieth-century work was created by Arcangelo Salvarani and his Academy students.
