The Sala Chiesa has its own external entrance beside the main doorway.
The seventeenth-century Church of San Carlo was commissioned by the Congregation of the Blessed Virgin and Saint Charles from Roman architect Bartolomeo Avanzini.
Architect and stage designer Gaspare Vigarani refined the project, and construction began in 1664 under master builder Giovan Pietro Piazza. The decoration and dome were completed in the second half of the eighteenth century. The marble altars, enriched by paintings from artists who also worked for the ducal court, were funded through private bequests from the 1660s onward and were not completed until the nineteenth century.
Capacity: 400 seated and 90 standing.
